How Do I Get Rid of Something on My News Feed

How to get rid of junk in your Facebook News Feed so that you only see the posts you want to see!

Over the last year, I have started to feel increasingly overwhelmed whenever I opened up Facebook. Between the politics, the thousands of Facebook pages I was following, & the excessive amount of videos, I either found myself completely avoiding Facebook or watching video after video unable to free myself from the vicious cycle.

It was a serious problem.

For one, I was wasting time on meaningless videoes about makeup (which I don't wear a lot of compared to those videos), food (although I tried to avoid the BIG NAME food page videos because they more than often are just ripping off a blogger with little to no credit given & yes, it has happened to me too), & a mirage of other random things like cats, facial hair removal, & ridiculous car accidents.

Secondly, I was not kidding when I said I was following thousands of Facebook pages. Which meant I often saw the same viral video appear multiple times on my news feed.

Finally, because I was following so many pages I missed almost everything happening in my friends & families lives because my Facebook news feed was clutter with the same repetitive junk.

So around the same time Mark Zuckerberg decided to take control of the junk, (which has not only cost him billions of dollars, but also hurt small businesses like me), I decided that I wasn't going to wait around for Mark or anyone else to try a plethora of algorithm changes on Facebook to help me make "meaningful social interactions" because lets face it, I'm the one who filled my Facebook News Feed with junk.

My choice made thousands of times since I opened my personal Facebook account in 2007.

And the only one who can make a real difference in fixing this problem is me.

I needed to find a way to easily unfollow pages & people so that I could rid myself of the monogamous montage of posts, videos, & repetitive content.

And after 3-4 hours spread over a couple of days, I had completely cleaned my Facebook News Feed. And I'm going to share with you how you can too!

Although I should note, I was legitimately following thousands & thousands of pages, so your time will vary depending on how many you need to unfollow & the speed of your internet. Also, if you think 3-4 hours is a lot, think about how much time I will be saved in the future not going down the rabbit hole of watching video after video about cheese & chocolate.

So want to find out how to remove the clutter & junk in your Facebook News Feed?

There are two easy ways.

But before I share these two ways on how to unfollow people & pages quickly you should know these two things.

First, when you unfollow a page that person/blog/company will not know that you have unfollowed them. Second, unfollowing means that you will no longer see their content in your Facebook News Feed, but you will however still have a "like" on their page. And as Facebook puts it, to unfollow a page is to "stop seeing posts from this page" as you can see from the picture below.

This then means that if you unfollow a page by a person/blog/company of a personal friend, you don't have to worry that they will try to invite you to "like" their page again or get mad at you for unfollowing their page. Not only will they not know that you unfollowed them, but they will still continue to see your "like" on their page so that you don't have to worry about any awkward confrontations.

How to get rid of junk in your Facebook News Feed so that you only see the posts you want to see!

1. Individually Unfollow

While scrolling through your Facebook News Feed, if you see a post you aren't fond of, click the three dots (it looks like this "…") beside the page name at the top of the post.

A bunch of options will appear with a description under each title & to unfollow a page you will want to click "Unfollow ____".

I only did this after doing a mass unfollow (described below). Because I was following so many pages, it would have taken me forever to use this method for unfollowing pages. Once I had mass unfollowed pages I was able to see more of what my Facebook "Friends" were posting about & I used this tool to unfollow them while still being their "friend" with a "like" on their page.

I should also note that I did NOT "unfollow" Seeking Lavender Lane. They are one of the few pages that didn't make the unfollow cut whose content I continue to enjoy on a regular basis. You can follow her on Facebook too by clicking here.

2. Mass Unfollow

1. First, open your Facebook News Feed.

2. In the left column, right below your name, you will see "News Feed        …"

Click on the "…"

3. At the bottom of this short list, you will see an option to "Edit Preferences," click on this.

4. Then choose the option to "Unfollow people to hide their posts."

5. Once there click the "All" button & choose a category to unfollow, like "Pages."

Then scroll through the image list & click on the pages/people you want to unfollow. Once complete click "Done."

It's as easy as that!

And I should again note that I did NOT "unfollow" Sincerely, Marie Designs because I love her content. And you can follow her too by clicking here.

Now that I've unfollowed a ton of pages & people I am able to see more of what I am interested in & interact more personably with the pages & people whose content fits my personality.

And while this may seem counterintuitive as you try to decrease the content in your Facebook News Feed, I would love to have you follow along on my Domestically Blissful Facebook page . I mean you made it this far through my post, so you must be enjoying something, right?
